The cold war erupts
After WWII the Soviet Union and the U.S go straight to the Cold War. The Soviet Union was upset that they suffered the most casualties, but the U.S got all of the glory. The Soviet union suffered 25 million casualties, including both combat and civilian deaths. The U.S only suffered 400,000 total casualties. Joseph Stalin knew he had to do something about it so he started to do many things that would "benefit" his country.
In order to strengthen his power he started the Great Purges, which was when Stalin ordered the assassination of countless suspected political enemies. Others were sent to labor camps. He would also promote Russian history and culture as well as promote a cult of personalty.
