Containment
There was a wartime held conference between the Big Three, Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill, called Yalta. It was a conference to discuss how the land that Hitler controlled would be split up. The war wasn't totally over, but they knew that Hitler had lost and they would need a plan to split up the land that he took over. After the war, Roosevelt died of a stroke and Harry Truman took over for him in April 1945.
After the war there was another conference called The Potsdam Conference featuring, Stalin, Truman, and Churchill. They met to, again, decide the future of Germany. It resulted in Germany being split into two sides with the Western Powers controlling West Germany and the USSR controlling East Germany. The countries controlled by the Western powers were capitalist countries and the countries controlled by the USSR were communist countries. Churchill then made this thing called "The Iron Curtain" which completely separates the West from the east. Afterwards Truman decides he is going to send money to the countries in Europe who needed to rebuild, but they left out the USSR.
