Who caused the cold war?
Looking at the information presented it looks as if it could've been both sides:
Why it would be the U.S:
Before President Roosevelt died of a stroke, there was a conference held called the Yalta conference, featuring the Big Three, Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin. Roosevelt let Stalin have some room to show them what land he wanted. But when Roosevelt died, Truman came into the picture as the new President. He gave Stalin no room to breathe. Later he made it worse by enacting the Marshall Plan, which was pretty much giving any country money to help them rebuild, unless they were a communist country. The USSR was in the most need of the money, but they got none of it. The U.S could've caused the Cold War because of how they refused to help the USSR rebuild and Truman and Stalin weren't the fondest of each other. In the the Truman Doctrine there was a statement mad that said, "The very existence of the Greek state is today threatened by the terrorist activities of several thousand armed men, led by Communists, who defy the government's authority," which pretty much called any communist a terrorist, which could've made the USSR even more and than they already were.
Why it would be the USSR:
Stalin was very pro communist. He wanted to run a communist country, and the U.S didn't want that. The U.S also believed that Greece was in trouble because of the USSR. They thought that Greece needed their help seeing as to they were bordering a lot of the communist countries. The USSR could've caused the Cold War because of how enraged they were at the U.S for not giving them any money to help them rebuild. So, both countries were at fault for the start of the Cold War.
