JFK and Khrushchev:
There had always been tension between the U.S and the Soviet Union since the Cold War started, but this short period of 13 days was the most intense period and the closest we got to nuclear war. The U.S knew that Cuba and Khrushchev were allies but they did not know the while story until they sent a spy plane out and it captured pictures of missile bases in Cuba. The U.S figured out that the Soviet Union was supplying nuclear weapons to Cuba and they decided to quarantine Cuba. They had a blockade of ships that would send Soviet Union ships back where they came from. The U.S had missile bases all through Europe and the Soviet Union only knew about the one in Turkey, since it was so close to them. Once Khrushchev found out about this base he set up a meeting with Kennedy and they discussed taking down their missiles bases. Kennedy agreed to take down his basin Turkey, but it had to be kept completely confidential. So in the end, the Soviet Union takes down their base in Cuba, publicly, and the U.S takes down their base in Turkey, secretly.

Missile Base in Cuba:
The Soviet Union and Cuba had been in cahoots for a significant amount of time, look as to they were both communist countries. It wasn't until later that the U.S found out that there was a missile base in Cuba, ready to attack. They found this out via spy plane pictures. Then they found out that the Soviet Union had been supplying them nuclear weapons, so the U.S put a quarantine around Cuba and wouldn't allow any Soviet ship that had ammunition pass through.

Missile Base in Europe:
The U.S also had missile bases set up in Europe. They were set up in Italy, Britain, and Turkey. the Soviet Union only knew of the one in Turkey since it was so close to them. The U.S and the Soviet Union were kind of at a stalemate because they both had missile bases very close to each others countries. They soon came to a consensus that they would take down those missile bases, so the Soviet Union took down he one in Cuba and the U.S took down the one in Turkey, but not Italy or Britain because the Soviet Union did not know about those ones.
