Women in the 50's
In the 50's the men were the ones who were supposed to work and the women had to stay home. The women had to stay home and clean the house, do the dishes, and tend to the children. When the men went off to war, they had to fill the jobs which were engineers and office workers (jobs that men would normally do). When the war was over the women got fired to open the jobs back up for the men. There was a lot of different propaganda that would so the ideal image of a perfect family. the wife would be sophisticated looking, the husband would look formal and like a business man with a to of knowledge, the oldest kid would try to following his father's footsteps and the youngest would look to the other kid. The place to live was in the suburbs, so that means the men would have to make a commute to work, so the wife would be left home for a long period of time to tend to the kids or the house. The wives would sometimes go out shopping or go with each other to the movies. The 1950's was also a time when there was a major spike in the population charts. This was a time known as the Baby Boom. The Baby Boom occurred because people were just happy he war was finally over so they decided to celebrate and they ended up having a bunch of kids.
