Alien Registration Act:
There was an act that makes it illegal to talk about or teach overthrowing the government. They made it illegal to talk about communism or show that you liked the idea of communism. The objective of this act was to undermine the American Communist Party. During this act, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed under the suspicion that they were communist spies. The Rosenberg's vigorously protested their innocence, but after a quick trial in March 1951, they were convicted.

Joseph McCarthy:
Joseph McCarthy was a senator that accused many people of being communist spies. He rebelled against the government and spread secrets about the U.S. He would spread fear and paranoia and people eventually started to back him up. They would support his ideas of getting rid of the "communist spies." He even went as far as to accuse WWII veterans of being communists spies. Once he did that all of his supporters started to leave.
