Nixon: The good and the bad
The Good:
Nixon had made a lot of accomplishments during his presidency. One of the biggest accomplishments he made was when he was able to create a relationship with China. He was the first president to visit China and offer aid to them, his visit with Mao Zedong shocked the world because then he offered China a spot in the UN. Once he had a stable relationship with China, things started to calm down with the USSR. Nixon even traveled to Moscow and discussed nuclear disarmament. The US and the USSR then agreed to a light trade agreement and a joint space exploration. The people in the US trusted Nixon because they knew he was very anti-communist. Other accomplishments he made were; Triangular Diplomacy and a focus on foreign policy.

The Bad:
Nixon also had a a lot of falling outs. There was an incident called Watergate, which was when five men were arrested for sneaking into the Democrat political party head quarters. They installed wire taps and taking photos of the documents. Nixon was able to successfully hush this event for a little while. The story comes up again and a Senate committee to set up to investigate Spiro Angew, VP, resigns facing charges of bribery and tax evasion. Soon after that, Nixon’s own personal counsel (john Dean) testifies to the Senate against Nixon. Nixon assures the public “I am not a crook," which was one of his famous speeches. Later, they found out that Nixon has recorded conversations in the Oval Office, so the Senate asked for these tapes. He refused. The public demand justice. He released the tapes with a suspicious 17 minutes missing. After that the Senate was drawing up papers of impeachment. Nixon resigned before the impeachment vote takes place. Nixon’s successor, Gerald Ford, is the first president who was not elected to that office or the VP position because the VP resigned as well. Int he end, Gerald Ford pardons Nixon, to major outcry which starts an uprising with the US citizens.
